The second Cabernet Franc Challenge is now open for entries and producers are invited to enter as many of their wines as they see fit, as long as it contains a minimum of 85% of the varietal. Due to requests by some of the producers, a “Vintage” class has been added to the competition where Cabernet Francs, 5 years and older will be awarded.
The entries will be judged on 15 February 2017 in a blind judging process, led by a panel of experts with the Top 6 and Vintage Class winners announced on 1 March 2017.
“The competition was moved to an earlier slot for the 2017 judging so as to ensure that wineries in the Top 6 and Vintage Class winners have time to make arrangements to take up a stand at the exclusive 2017 Cab Franc Carnivals, which will take place in May and June in the Western Cape and Gauteng respectively,” says Cobie van Oort of CVO Marketing, who is managing both the Challenge and Carnivals.
