The closing date for the fifth Cabernet Franc Challenge is coming up on 27 February with three categories offering producers a chance to be awarded a medal and get expert feedback from the judging panel.

Over and above the Cabernet Franc Top 6 Challenge aimed at 100% Cab Francs, the Vintage category and a category highlighting Cab Franc Blends offer producers the chance to see how their wines are performing.  An optional best value award is also handed out if the panel recommends it.

Cape Wine Master and Judging Panel Convenor Christine Rudman will be joined by Cab Franc specialist and CWA lecturer Lizette Tolken,  highly respected Sommelier Greg Mutambe,  wine retailer Michael Bampfield-Duggan and international wine journalist Fiona McDonald.   We are happy that the judging team stays the same as in 2019 as this aids with continuity.

The judging takes place on 17 March at Vrede en Lust Estate using the OIV 100-point system in order to fine-tune the nuances and differences in the wines.  The results will be audited. The winners will be announced on 7 April at Holden Manz Estate in Franschhoek.

Ms Rudman will also be presenting the popular three tutored tasting sessions of the Top 6 wines at the Cab Franc Carnival which takes place at Vrede en Lust Estate between Paarl and Franschhoek on Saturday, 9 May from 11h00-16h00.
