The 2019 Cabernet Franc Carnival takes place on Saturday, 18 May from 11-4 at scenic Avontuur Estate between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. Twenty one of South Africa’s most passionate producers of this fascinating varietal will offer their wines for tasting and sale at the event.
Participating wineries are: Avontuur Estate, Bushmanspad Estate, Delaire Graff Estate, Doolhof Estate, Druk my Niet Wine Estate, Hillcrest Estate, Holden Manz Wine Estate, Keermont Wines, Landskroon Wines, Morgenster Wine & Olive Estate, Mulderbosch Vineyards, My Wyn, Nelson Wine Estate, Onderkloof, Ormonde Vineyards, Raats Family Wines, Rainbow’s End Estate, Spookfontein Wines, The Garajeest, Vrede en Lust and Whalehaven.
Over and above enjoying the day with fellow Cab Franc fans, the great views from the lawns of Avontuur Estate and the yummy food from the Avontuur Estate Restaurant are integral to the festival. Visitors always love the eats from a carefully curated selection of food truck. This year local favourite Ishushu Pizza’s will be on hand and newcomer Great Grub will be presenting beef sliders, veggie burgers , quinoa & butternut salad, pork belly/pulled beef taco’s and chicken and pork spring rolls.
The interactive tutored tastings of the 2019 Cab Franc Challenge Top 6 wines is an integral part of the Carnival and is often the only place to taste these winning wines due to small volumes produced. The tastings are presented by convenor of the judging panel, Christine Rudman. Tickets cost R150 pp extra and only 20 seats per session are available at 11h30, 13h00 and 14h30.
Tickets:
